Itinerary

Day 1Arrival to Paro and drive to Thimphu

  • Flight to Paro, then drive to Thimphu, stopping along the way to observe the traditional bridge made out of old iron chains at Tachog Lhakhang. M ove from the land boundary with India, if desired. Stroll through Thimphu town and, at your discretion, pay a visit to the king’s and government’s seat, Tashichho Dzong. Other attractions are dependent on arrival time.

Day 2Thimphu-Punakha

  • 3 hours 30 minutes to complete the 86-kilometer ride. You’ll grab the motorcycles and start getting familiar with them in the morning. Then take a journey to Buddha Point, the most beautiful city vantage point. Take a ride over the Dochu-la Pass, which is 3500 meters high. The most beautifully decorated castle in Bhutan, Punakha dzong, and Chimmi lhakhang, a shrine dedicated to Drukpa Kunley, a 16th-century “divine lunatic,” should be visited. Descend to Wangdue/Punakha valley. Stunning valley vistas on the nunnery ride.

Day 3Punakha-Haa

  • Ride 170 kilometers in 6-7 hours. Another tough day is ahead. You must cross Dochu-la pass once more in the morning. Punakha is only 1400 meters altitude, so it’s a quiet ascent from there. There are several turns on a largely wide, beautiful road. with no clouds. You will be greeted on the pass by a mountainous landscape (in clear weater).
  • Now begin to descend to Simtokha, where the route to Thimphu is on the right and the road to Paro and Haa, which is where you want to go, is on the left. Between Thimphu and Paro, reach Chuzom (Confluence). The crooked road leads up to the Haa from here. Despite the lower traffic, this area is incredibly scenic. The Dobji Dzong, formerly a jail, will be passed through. It is now a monastery for Buddhists. Arrive in Haa and find lodging in a hotel or, alternatively, a local farm to enjoy traditional hospitality as a guest of a Bhutanese family. You can cycle around Haa valley for longer if time allows.

Day 4Haa-Paro

  • 3 hours to travel 65 kilometers. A beautiful view of the valley can be experienced by riding to Katsho Gompa in the morning. The highest motorable pass in Bhutan, Chele-la Pass (3850m), is then reached after a long ascent. The Kanchejunga is visible to the west from the crest of the pass in clear weather. Jomolhari, a sacred peak, is also visible to the north a short ride beyond the crossing. Walking a little way up through the “forest” of prayer flags in the pass is worthwhile for stretching out your legs.
  • Descent to Paro should begin now. The Airport viewpoint is reached by using a road that passes above the airport. The airport at Paro is regarded as one of the world’s most adventurous. Visit the Rinpung dzong castle in Paro, where the Little Buddha movie was filmed. Jogging around the city could be refreshing.

Day 5Paro

  • Ride 35 kilometers in 1.5 hours. Today’s journey will begin with a brief ride beneath the renowned Tiger’s Nest monastery. We will leave our motorcycles parked and hike up to this revered tourist destination and Bhutan’s holiest site. A 600-meter elevation difference must be climbed, and the same distance must be walked down. Depending on your physical condition, the entire trek takes 4-5 hours, including time for temple visiting. After lunch, we’ll ride to the castle that is currently undergoing renovation, Drukyel Dzong. In clear conditions, you may view the sacred Jomolhari peak’s summit from this location. Take your motorcycles back to Paro and bid them farewell. Enjoy your final evening in Bhutan.

Day 6Departure

  • Program dependent on takeoff time. Drop off at the airport and departure from Bhutan follows. Optionally travel to the Indian border at Phuentsholing/Jaigaon.
