Itinerary

Day 1Arrival-Drive to Thimphu

  • Drive to Thimphu after arriving by plane at the Paro airport. Visit the medieval bridge constructed with centuries-old iron chains at Tachog Lhakhang.
  • Visit the Tashichho dzong, the castle that houses the king’s and government’s offices, depending on your arrival time. Visit the other attractions if time allows. Reside at four-star rated Zhiwa Ling Ascent overnight.

Day 2Thimphu-Wangdue

  • Drive across Dochu-la pass (3010 m) in the morning to Wangdue or Punakha while stopping at the royal temple Druk Wangyel lhakhang.
  • On the way down to Wangdue, pause to have a stroll around the Royal Botanical Garden. After arriving, proceed quickly to Chhimmy lhakhang Temple, which is dedicated to Drukpa Kunley, a saint from the 15th century known as the “Divine Madman” who taught Buddhism by singing, drinking, and engaging in unrestrained sexual activity. It is renowned as a “fertility temple,” assisting couples in having children who are healthy and robust! To ensure a healthy delivery of the children, receive a blessing from the wooden phallus relic from a monk.
  • Visit Punakha Dzong, a stunning castle situated at the meeting point of the male and female rivers, by taking a drive there. View Bhutan’s longest suspension bridge as well. Drive back to Thimphu in the late afternoon. Reside at the four-star rated Zhiwa Ling Ascent overnight.

Day 3Thimphu-Paro

  • Drive to Buddha Dordenma, the enormous statue of the Buddha atop a valley, in the early morning, and then go to a stunning city viewpoint. See the Memorial Chorten, which is constantly crowded with worshippers.
  • The traffic cops are signaling at intersections as you walk down Norzin Lam Street. The only capital city without traffic signals is Thimphu. Finish your walk at the handicraft market, where you may find and purchase many wonderful Bhutanese mementos for a fair price.
  • Take a trip to Changlimithang Stadium to watch a bout of the national sport of Bhutan, archery (depends on luck if the game is going on).
  • You can also travel to Centenary Market, where locals go to buy their groceries, from Friday through Sunday. The market’s section for handmade goods is interesting. Otherwise, you can take advantage of some free time to wander around the town on your own. Drive to Paro in the evening. Reside at the five-star rated Zhiwa Ling Heritage hotel overnight

Day 4Paro

  • You will hold your wedding ceremony in the nearby farmhouse in the morning. You will receive a blessing from a Buddhist lama, exchange ritual scarves to signify your respect for one another and your willingness to make sacrifices for them, and finish with a marchang ceremony that includes sipping some local ara whiskey.  Take pleasure in the farmhouse’s customary lunch. Afternoon excursion to the National Museum of Bhutan, which houses some fascinating antiquities, and Paro Dzong (Rinpung Dzong), the castle-monastery where Bernardo Bertolucci filmed the Little Buddha movie. In Zhiwa Ling Heritage for the night

Day 5Paro

  • The highlight of the tour is the climb to Taktsang Gomba (Tiger’s Nest). Although the hike sounds challenging, it is really rewarding. If you’re not feeling very strong, you can only climb halfway to the cafeteria, which has a wonderful perspective of the area. Depending on the weather, your level of fitness, and your tastes, you might think about climbing in the morning or early afternoon.
  • If you’d like, you can wear Bhutanese clothing on your hike so you can capture special pictures along the way! Rest day with leisure activities or extra program of your choice.
  • After a day of hiking, enjoy a free hot stone bath to relax. Spend the night in Zhiwa Ling Heritage.

Day 6Departure

  • If you have the time, you should visit Drugyel Dzong, an ancient castle from which, in good skies, you can see the sacred Jomolhari mountain’s peak. After that, you fly out of Paro.
