Itinerary
Day 1Arrive Paro and travel to Haa
After arriving in Paro, proceed to Dzongdrakha Lhakhang, an old temple built on a cliff that has been compared to Tiger’s Nest for its beauty and infrequent access by other tourists.
Continue driving across Bhutan’s highest motorable pass, Chele-la (3850 m), from this point on. If the skies are bright, you may be able to glimpse the holy Jomolhari peak in the north and the Kanchenjunga mountain to the west.
Arrive at Talum Village in the Haa Valley and be welcomed like a guest of the locals. Take advantage of the warm villagers’ welcome. You can choose to have a hot stone bath, a popular Bhutanese delight.
Day 2Haa-Paro
Drive to Katsho hamlet and take a short climb up to Juneydrak hermitage after visiting the Lhakhang Karpo (white temple), the major shrine in the Haa Valley that is devoted to a local deity, in the morning. This tiny temple located on a rocky outcrop is known as the “second Tiger’s Nest.” You might require a support from the rope that is fixed here as the last ascent to this temple is exceedingly steep. Two hospitable hermits who live there will show you around the area.
Return the drive to Chele-la Pass. You might have another chance now to see the snowy peaks if you missed them the day before.
From the pass, you can either drive nearly there further down or walk through an old forest to the nunnery at Kila Gompa. This is Bhutan’s oldest female monastery, and it has some breathtaking vistas.
Drive to Paro Valley; walk through bustling town filled with boutiques, coffee shops, and neighborhood pubs.
Day 3Paro
The tour’s unquestionable high point is the hike to Taktsang Gomba (The Tiger’s Nest)! Despite the climb’s appearance of difficulty, it is immensely rewarding. You can cut it short in the café with a lovely view of the temple if you don’t feel particularly strong. If you still have the energy, you could climb up to Zangtopelri Lhakhang to see Tiger’s Nest from above. Depending on the weather, your fitness level, and your tastes, you might think about trekking in the morning or early afternoon.
Drive down to Paro town and be in awe of the historic traditional bridge below the Paro Dzong. Next, visit the National Museum in Ta dzong, the watchtower guarding the Paro fortress from intruders. Here, you can snap lovely pictures with a castle in the background while wearing Bhutanese clothing.
The Paro airport perspective is still ahead. You might witness planes landing and departing off, depending on the timing. Enjoy your final evening in Bhutan. Runway in Paro is renowned as one of the world’s most challenging airports.
It is optional to arrange a mask dance performance and a traditional meal in a nearby farmhouse.
Day 4Departure
If you have the time, you can travel to Drugyel dzong to visit a recently restored castle and the sacred Jomolhari mountain’s summit in good visibility.
After that, you may either take a flight out of Paro or drive for around 5 hours to the land border at Phuentsholing.
