Itinerary

Day 1Arrive Paro and drive to Thimphu

  • Arrival by air at the Paro airport, followed by a drive to Thimphu, or, if arriving by road, entry into India by Phuentsholing or Jaigaon, followed by a full-day trip to Thimphu.
  • Visit the medieval bridge constructed with centuries-old iron chains at Tachog Lhakhang. Evening Visit the castle, Tashicho dzong, which houses the king and the executive branch of government. Depending on the time of arrival, other sightseeing will be decided.

Day 2Thimphu(Hiking)

  • A trek to Dodedra Shedra in the morning. Start in the Dechencholing neighborhood of Thimphu and gradually ascend 500 meters for stunning views of the city. Dodedra is a monastery school located in a tranquil setting away from the bustle of the city. Explore the main temple’s tiny museum and original mural murals. For lunch, return to Thimphu. Then take a short walk to the impressive city vista from Buddha Dordenma, a huge statue of Buddha that overlooks the valley. See the Memorial Chorten, which is constantly crowded with worshippers. The traffic cops are signaling at intersections as you walk down Norzin Lam Street. The only capital city without traffic signals is Thimphu. Finish your stroll at the handicraft market, where you may examine and purchase a variety of fascinating Bhutanese mementos.

Day 3Thimphu, Hiking in Dochu-la and drive to Paro

  • Hike out from the monastery, then drive to the fascinating Dochu-la pass with its 108 stupas and chapel honoring Bhutan’s fourth king. We will begin the 4-5-hour round-trip climb to the Lungchusey gompa with 360-degree mountain vista outlook from the pass. Reach back to the road at Hontsho after descending to Tashigang Gompa. then travel to Paro by car. Visit the National Museum of Bhutan, which features a number of exhibitions, before finishing your trip at Paro dzong, the castle where Bernardo Bertolucci filmed the Little Buddha movie.

Day 4Trek Paro-Bumdra

  • 6 km, 5–6 hours, 960m ascent. We will travel to the 2890-meter Sang Choekor Buddhist college in the morning. The first 3–4 hours are spent in the forest on an arduous ascent. Lunch will be provided at the little temple of Chechemhen, located at 3640 meters, with lovely views of the Paro valley. The terrain will become mild after the final, brief ascent and gradually slope up. reaching a permanent, opulent camp underneath the Bumdrak temple. The temple is known as the Cave of 100,000 Dakinis, or Buddhist female angels, who are said to have constructed it in the 17th century. You can also visit the temples if the custodian is there.
  • For better beautiful landscapes and to see the sacred Jomolhari peak (7326m) summit, you can continue climbing to a viewpoint at a height of 4130 meters if you still have the stamina and time to do so. About 1.5 hours is needed to travel reach the viewpoint. The Bumdrak Camp has spacious permanent tents with beds and cozy blankets. Gas heaters are installed in the dining tent. This night will be virtually as comfortable as if you were staying in a hotel because there is also a toilet tent with camping beds and chairs nearby. Keep an eye out for the lovely Himalayan monals, who frequently visit the kitchen tent to peck at food scraps and dwell in the neighboring shrubs.

Day 5Trek Bumdra- Tigers Nest-Paro

  • 10 kilometers, 6 hours, 180 m ascent, and 1400 m descent. Today, we will begin descending steadily and directly to the forest. We will arrive at Oselgang monastery after around two hours when the views of the Paro valley begin to open up. Continue down until you reach Ogyen Tsemo Temple, which is immediately above the Tiger Nest (not yet visible). Finally, descend into a small valley before making a short ascent to the cliff’s peak Zangto Pelri Lhakhang. You can see the Tiger’s Nest monastery’s roofs from here; you will start descending there shortly. The holiest location in Bhutan is called Tiger’s Nest. On the site where Guru Padmasambhava, an 8th-century magical saint, meditated, it was constructed in the 17th century.
  • Visit the temple, then make your way down to the parking. Before returning to the hotel, we will still take some time to explore the ruins of the Drugyel Dzong, a formidable fortress that guarded Bhutan against Tibetan incursions, and the Kiychu Lhakhang, one of the two oldest temples in Bhutan that was constructed in the seventh century by the Tibetan warrior-king Songtsen Gampo. Enjoy your final night in Bhutan.
