Tour variations, Extensions and Combination

Extend stay in Merak (plus one day): Merak would be a nice place to spend a day. You can stroll about the area, attempt to climb the over 5,000-meter-high holy Aumo Yomo peak, or trek further into the community.

Start or finish in Paro: You can simply begin or end your vacation in Paro, Western Bhutan, where you can visit the well-known Tiger’s Nest monastery and other attractions, thanks to a domestic aircraft that connects the Yongphula airport in Eastern Bhutan with Paro in the West.

Extend with Omba Nye “The Tiger Nest of the East” hike (Plus two days): Omba Nye is a relatively new and well-liked 3-day trekking track in Bhutan. It can also be completed as a 2-day, 1-night hiking expedition with an overnight stay in an Omba village homestay. Similar to Paro’s Taktsang, the Omba Nye Monastery is situated in a magnificent location on a rocky cliff.

Itinerary

Day 1Guwahati – Samdrup Jongkhar – Tashigang

  • You will be picked up in Guwahati at 5AM and taken to Samdrup Jongkhar. Your driver and guide from Bhutan, who will take care of all immigration procedures, will be waiting for you here.
  • You will next begin a daylong ascent to the Himalayas. We shall make a stop after a short drive to receive a Hindu hermit’s blessing for the safety of our travel. You will soon get the chance to see the first of many enchanting Zangto Pelri Lhakhang temples in Bhutan, which have intricated mural paintings.
  • You will make a stop in Khaling village in the afternoon to see the National Handloom Development Project, which upholds a rich local weaving culture. Also, on your itinerary is a stop at the National Institute for the Blind. The creation of the Bhutanese version of the Braille script is one of the accomplishments of this forward-thinking organization.
  • You’ll also pass the enormous monastic school Karma Thegsum Dechenling Goemba and the 1978-founded Sherubtse College, the first university campus of Bhutan. We also go to a temple in the nearby village of Kanglung. Arrival to Tashigang.

Day 2Tashigang-Merak

  • Ascending to the high mountains of Merak – Sakteng, also known as Migoi National Park, will begin early in the morning today after you swap your vehicle for a dependable Bolero jeep. Most locals will be able to recall several instances when they or their relatives came across yeti in the wild. Yeti are known locally as migoi.
  • We will arrive at Mon-la pass after a two-hour drive, where a welcoming party of Borkpa nomads dressed in regional attire will be waiting. Enjoy the friendliness of the locals and their delicious nomad meal, as well as their delectable native spirits and milky Chang beer.
  • Continue your trip to Merak Village (3500 m), where you will stay as a guest of the Brokpa family at a local farmhouse. Discover the village’s temples. You can pay an additional fee to watch the Yak dance and the dance for the local deity Aum Yomo.

Day 3Merak

  • You will begin your full-day hike around the village of Merak in the morning. You can either climb to the communal meadows north of the village or to the revered Aum Yomo hill, thought to be the home of the neighborhood’s guardian deity (4500 meters).
  • You will learn more about the local culture in the afternoon. You will observe the locals spinning wool and creating their vibrant traditional clothing and fabrics. Study the production of ara, butter tea, and yak cheese (local rice, wheat or corn spirit).

Day 4Merak-Sakteng

  • Take a 7-8-hour climb over the big Sakteng village’s Nyuksang-la pass, which is 4120 meters high. The walk provides excellent views of Merak Village as well as several opportunities to watch diverse animals, including Blood Pheasants and other species.
  • Following a long descent to the riverbed and a quick ascent, the expansive settlement of Sakteng can be seen after crossing a pass. This village, which still has a beautiful local culture, was just recently accessible via motorable road. The Saktengpas, as the inhabitants are known, have close ties to Tawang in Indian Arunachal Pradesh and their relatives, who are known as “Monpas” on the Indian side of the border but are culturally the same.
  • From here, folks can freely enter the Indian border after a short stroll.

Day 5Sakteng-Tashigang

  • Visit the Sakteng village and its monasteries in the morning. See also the odd outdoor display of components from the Indian army plane that crashed here many years ago. Then take a jeep to Thrakthi village and continue over a rocky road to Tashigang, arriving there in the dusk.

Day 6Tashigang-Samdrup Jongkhar-Guwahati

From the Himalayas southward to the Indian border, this will be a daylong drive. The same route you took to get here on Day One will be followed, passing via Sherubtse University and the Yongphula Airport. Don’t forget to stop at Damthang before getting to Smadrup Jongkhar for additional blessing. When the immigration process is complete, you will bid your driver and guide in Bhutan farewell before being driven to Guwahati by your Indian equivalent. the conclusion of the tour.
